![]() ![]() If they pass by I will call at them and turn them around. usually they will come in on their own if things look right. I never call at ducks that are coming in, or heading in my direction. And follow some of the other good tips posted in this thread. Be still, Ducks can see movement from a long way off. I have been Duck hunting for over 40 years, If you are where the ducks want to be, make your blind as small as possible and look as natural as possible, make your decoy spread look like it belongs there. You can do more harm than good if your not real good at it. Imo, If your new I wouldn't worry to much about calls and calling. By the end of the season they get pretty Beat up and still work just as good. if you put them where the Ducks want to be, they dont have to be perfect. My decoys that i hunt with are pretty old and beat up. ![]() I have a pair of ringers from the same guy. If it looks out of place they will not come in, they will avoid you like the plague. Ducks will respond to what looks normal for the area and what they are used to seeing. If you ride through the area and large numbers of ducks get up together then try to match that, you might put out several dozen decoys and 2or3 mojo decoys. I would only put out a dozen Teal decoys and a couple of mallards and maybe a mojo decoy. Then thats what your decoy spread should look like. If the teal are in small groups sitting on the water and you see them get up 10-12 at a time with a mallard or two getting up also. then when you set up to hunt that spot, thats what you should put out for decoys. If you ride through an area and you start getting up (For example) some good flocks of Teal and a few mallards. untill to much hunting pressure is put on them and they move on. If they are there for a reason, they usually come back to that spot. The right depth of water, food source, protection from high wind, ect,ect. When you go scouting and find an area that holds good numbers of ducks there is usually a good reason they are there. RuffingFeathers gave you some good advise. Some times you will shoot a few divers when hunting puddle ducks, and vise versa. Mallards, Bluewing Teal, Greenwing Teal, Wood Duck, Gadwall, Shoveler, Wigeon and a few others tend to be in the same type of marsh. The puddle Ducks will be in the shallow marsh, They do not like open deep water. Normaly they are in Different areas than the puddle ducks. you will find them in a little deeper water. Diving Ducks are Ring necks, Bluebills, Redheads, Canvasbacks, Scaup's, ect. ![]()
